Priest and Victim

According to Pope John Paul II (Gift and Mystery, Chapter VIII), this litany has been customarily recited at the seminary in Cracow, especially on the day before ordinations. The text, in both Latin and English, is included as an appendix to the book, which states that the English version is not an official translation.

  That You may kindly fill them with the spirit of Your priesthood, Hear us, we beseech You.  
  That the lips of Your priests may be repositories of knowledge, Hear us, we beseech You.

  O God, sanctifier and guardian of Your Church, stir up in her, through Your Spirit, suitable and faithful dispensers of the holy Mysteries, so that by their ministry and example, the Christian people may be guided in the path of salvation with Your protection. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen.  
       
  God, Who, when the disciples ministered to the Lord and fasted, ordered that Saul and Barnabas be set aside for the work to which You called them, be with Your Church as she prays now, and You, who know the hearts of all of us, show those whom You have chosen for Your ministry. Through Christ, Our Lord. Amen.
